Semester 2, 2014
Dear JAM members
It is the depths of winter and so cold! Our mid year concert was a lovely evening. We moved the venue to the Church proper this time to take advantage of the downward slope of the church, now that the pews have gone. It was great to have a new environment but the church was quite a bit colder than the hall even heated. The vaulted ceiling may have been the problem! We had some stellar performances from the groups. JAM 1a did the World Cup soccer theme ‘Hot, Hot, Hot’; Wayne and Dima sang ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’. And the lovely Pink duet ‘Just give me a reason’ by Maria and Edward went down well.
Several people have asked me about the future of JAM at Brighleigh. At this stage all I can confirm is that we will be there until the end of the year. I have researched some alternatives should we need to move next year but I am hoping it will be possible to operate JAM after hours in the school environment. The principal of Montessori school, Gay Wales, is happy to accommodate the program We will wait and see how it goes with the school program operating there during the day.
Caitlin, the music therapy student, finished her placement on the concert day. We really enjoyed having her involved with the groups and wish her all the best in her studies. I will be having a break from supervising students next semester.
Junior JAM
Junior JAM the preschool music group continues in conjunction with the Brighleigh Church. As an inclusive group, children with disabilities are encouraged to attend and are required to be assessed prior to joining. Session time is Thursday mornings at 10 am with morning tea provided. I am never sure if families come for the music or Mavis’ biscuits!
