JAM is contributing to Music therapy research

JAM has been approached to participate in a research project called “Musical Investment: assessing and enabling participation for wellbeing impact across the lifespan.” It is very exciting to be asked and to be able to contribute and respond regarding the impact music therapy has on the members of JAM.

Next week we the researcher, Dr Juyoung Lee from Melbourne University will be attending our sessions and also over the next 6 months. I know Dr Lee's work well. She has contributed widely to the literature on music therapy with people with PMID (Profound and Multiple Intellectual Disabilities) and I was involved with her on her PhD thesis. She is very sensitised to the needs of this population and I will be keen to have her feedback on our program.

As I canvassed in the latest newsletter, her research project is called -“Musical Investment: assessing and enabling participation for wellbeing impact across the lifespan.” It is funded by the Australian Research Council under the Discovery Project scheme and is subject to research ethics regarding identification of participants etc. For more information on this please contact me.

Sessions will be videoed three times as part of the study. Those people who have requested not to be photographed or videoed will have their wishes respected. If anyone has changed their minds about video permission please contact me as soon as possible so we can implement them.

I am excited to be part of this research and delighted that we have been asked to participate. I will keep you informed of the progress and the results as they are available.
